A Multidisciplinary Postgraduate Program In Conservation, Management and Utilisation of Forest and Other Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Approaches (Pollution Prevention and Waste Management)

The course will train professionals and would be professionals to undertake tasks in forest and wildlife management, water and other natural resource management, environmental pollution control and use of special tools such as environmental impact assessment, cost benefit analysis, GIS and remote sensing applications in environmental management.

Forestry and Environmental Science teaching at University of Sri Jayewardenepura

Postgraduate education in Forestry at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura has a history of more than 25 years. Since 1983 about 450 professionals had been trained at M.Sc. level who are currently attached to various forestry and environment related institutions and ably contributing to the country’s development process.

The overall objective of this Postgraduate Degree Program is to develop decision-making knowledge and skills required to manage forest and other natural environmental resources and to prevent and control environmental pollution. The course will train professionals and would be professionals to undertake tasks in forest and wildlife management, water and other natural resource management, environmental pollution control and use special tools such as environmental impact assessment, cost benefit analysis, GIS and remote sensing in forestry and environmental management.

Course structure

Duration : 2 years for M.Sc. and 1 year for Post Graduate Diploma
Subjects and Course Structure

Medium : English
Lectures and practicals will be conducted on Fridays and Saturdays from 8am-6pm.

Eligibility:

B.Sc. Degree in Biological or Physical Science, Forestry and Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Agriculture, Civil or Chemical Engineering.
Four year Degree in Management, Social Science, Economics, with at least 5 years experience in the field
Any other special qualification equivalent to a degree recognized by the University Grant Commission and considered appropriate by the University Senate, with at least 7 years of experience in the field

Course Fee :

Sri Lanka: M.Sc. - Rs.120, 000 PG Dip. – Rs70,000
SAARC countries: M.Sc. - US$ 6000 PG Dip. – US$ 3500
Other countries: M.Sc. - US$ 12,000 PG Dip. – US$ 7000

(The course fee can be paid in two installments, 60% of the total amount at the registration and the balance within 1 year for the M.Sc. and within 6 months for the PGDip.)
